UPDATE 20th May 2020

Council Recommendation is to reject the McDonalds development proposal.

The agenda and documentation for the Redlands Council meeting on the 27th of May has been released on the Council site.. Regarding MCU19-0142 development proposal for the Birkdale Fair Shopping Centre for a McDonalds fast food restaurant.;

Agenda extract:

CONCLUSION

The application has been made and assessed in accordance with the Planning Act 2016 and development assessment rules. The application does not comply with and cannot be

conditioned to comply with the assessment benchmarks and therefore, the development has been recommended for refusal. OFFICER’S RECOMMENDATION That Council resolves to refuse the application for a material change of

use for a food and drink outlet and reconfiguring a lot for subdivision by lease and creation of an access easements on land described as Lot 1 on RP816847 situated at 2‐12 Mary Pleasant Drive Birkdale, subject to the grounds identified in Attachment 5. This is great news for the local community and engenders some trust that the system can get it right, sometimes. The Redlands Council Planning team are to be thanked for their professionalism and diligence in methodically working through the process. Thanks also to the Committee, Jane, Cara, Fiona, James, Bryan and Steve as well as Councillor Paul Bishop. I would also like to acknowledge the interested community members who attended our Community meeting and sent emails of support throughout the last few months.
